Carbon technology
Toray carbon: a deliberate choice.
At Eddy Merckx Cycles ®, we made a deliberate choice for the best carbon available on the market: Toray carbon. While it is true that there is a virtually infinite variety of carbons available, all of which appear to be identical, in reality they have completely different properties. Toray carbon, which is manufactured by Toray, the Japanese textile giant, is our guarantee for top-of-the-line quality. For our products, we use 3 different carbons: carbon 46HM for the EMX-5 model, carbon 30HM for the EMX-3 model and carbon 24HM for the EMX-1 and EFX-1 models. The ‘HM’ designation (High Modulus) refers to the tensile strength in tonnes per square centimetre. 46HM refers to a tensile strength of 46 tonnes per square centimetre.

Redesigned seat stays
With a slightly curved construction and as a result there is greater lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. Strong riders and sprinters will benefit from the extra lateral rigidity while comfort has been taken to a higher level.

Repleacable aluminium carbon vertical dropout
Replaceable aluminium vertical dropouts brings the best of both worlds together: the lightness you expect from a top level-racing bike with the strength to resist a crash or rear derailleur failure.

Oversized bottom bracket
Possible power transfer so every Watt you put on the pedals is transformed into forward motion.

Tapered oversized head tube
Stiffer so the bike handles better and steers with extreme precision. Moreover, the oversized lower bearing helps to attenuate the vibrations coming from the front wheel towards the down tube.
