Carbon technology
In-house sourcing and careful material selection are vital to deliver the best high-end bicycles
At Eddy Merckx Cycles, our aim is to produce the best possible bicycle for each individual rider. In order to achieve this goal we start at the beginning - notably with the raw material: alloy for the AMX-range and carbon fiber for our EMX-range.
When you look closely to the carbon fibers market, there are really only a handful of suppliers who are seriously active at the top-end of the business, and by that we mean they work for the aerospace industry: Toray Industries, Toho Tenax, Hexcel, Cytec, Mitsubishi Rayon, …
Eddy Merckx Cycles has a close working relationship with these suppliers and as a consequence we are able to deliver top quality high-end products. For example, to further develop our current EMX-range we are introducing CL+- and OSR-technologies. Both technologies/development philosophies are derived from a deep understanding of different fiber properties and are based upon very specific material selection (24HM, 30HM, …). In fact, we always pay particular attention to the material selection aspect of a bicycle and this is true for every new project, from the very first concept sketches to the final production product.
We use the wealth of experience and knowledge of our dedicated suppliers, and we thank them for it - it gives us the confidence to know that we have selected the right material for the right bicycle part. Eddy Merckx Cycles will never claim to use the “best” carbon fiber in the world, simply because there isn’t one as it all depends on the application you are looking to use it for. What we do is work with the supplier to choose the “best suitable” carbon fiber for our and your very specific needs.

Aerofork
The new aerofork on the EMX-7 is even more aerodynamic than its predecessor, and the fit into the frame is perfect. Torsional stiffness is of course the aim, but stiffness without feel and stability is worthless. And what’s the secret? Well, the cross-cut surface is now even bigger at the point where the fork and frame meet.
-
Integrated seatpost
The EMX-7 has an integrated seat post that both enhances aerodynamics and increases stiffness still further.
-
Internal cables
A cool new feature for the EMX-3, the EMX-5 and the EMX-7 that is both practical and beautiful is when the cables are neatly and cleanly passed through an internal cable routing. The outer frame finish is sleeker, smoother and sexier, meaning that the aerodynamics are better and there is less chance of wear and tear.
OPTIMIZED STRUCURAL REINFORCEMENT
Advanced high modular stiffness fibers are used in combination with high-strength fibers to achieve unparalleled performance.
They are used in different strategic areas of the bike, as and when required. The front fork for example needs both for optimum weight reduction and improved stiffness and feel.
CARBON LAMINATE +
Carbon fiber bikes are made using sheets of carbon fiber, and these are built up in layers one on top of the other.
The carbon laminate + FRG process, developed by and for Eddy Merckx cycles, assemble the FRG sheets together in ways that maximise the strength and rigidity of the resulting frame. The result? optimized performance, comfort and weight.
Female Race Geometry
Eddy Merckx cycles is above all a manufacturer of racing bikes, and Eddy is the champion of racing bike geometry. it was normal therefore that the company should design a real racing bike for women. it means that the angle of the seat tube is kept as close to a proper racing angle as possible, and so the top tube is made shorter, and the front head tube is made larger. it’s more adapted to women’s body morphologies and much more comfortable to ride.
