Alloy technology
Alloy technology: choice between scandium and aluminium.
At Eddy Merckx Cycles ®, we have years of experience in the development of aluminium frames. The many victories won using aluminium Eddy Merckx bicycles during equipment-intensive competitions – such as the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders – are the best evidence of our success in doing so. Our collection has no fewer than 3 different alloys, with Scandium being the absolute summit: Scandium 7000 TB for the AMX-4 and AMX-5 models, Alloy 7046 TB for the AMX-2 model and Alloy 7005 TB for the AMX-1 model. The designation 'TB' refers to 'Triple-Butted' technology where 3 different grades of wall thickness are used, depending on the location in the frame. The result is that we can use less aluminium or scandium where more is not necessary.

Smooth welded finish
When you put as much time and energy as we do into the selection of the right materials and the development of the best possible geometrics, you’re only going to be satisfied with a finished product that is perfect to the last detail. To satisfy that need, Eddy Merckx Cycles ® also offers several ‘smooth-welded frames’ in which not a single welding seam can be seen.
