Happy birthday Eddy!
80 years of Eddy Merckx. 45 years of Eddy Merckx Bikes. This calls for a celebration. The grand master's 80th birthday is the perfect opportunity to put his legacy in the spotlight once again. That is exactly what we are doing with the Eddy 80 drop: a special edition road bike ánd gravel bike and a cycling jersey.
De Eddy 80 Mendrisio
The Mendrisio takes its name from Eddy's iconic world title in the Swiss town in 1971. At the time, Mendrisio was a battle between Merckx and his eternal rival Felice Gimondi. Gimondi attacked time and again, but could not shake off his younger rival. The race ended in a sprint, which Merckx won thanks to his explosiveness.

The Eddy 80 Strasbourg
The Strasbourg also nods to Merckx's glorious past. In the 1971 Tour, Eddy Merckx immediately won the team time trial and donned the first yellow jersey. On the second stage to Strasbourg, an elite group of 15 riders emerged, including Merckx, De Vlaeminck and Van Springel. On the unpaved track of the Stade Tivoli, Merckx and De Vlaeminck sprinted side by side to the finish, with a minute difference in Merckx's favour. That victory proved crucial, as the Tour was put in a final fold early on. Years later, we immortalised that day with our Strasbourg gravel bike - made for true adventurers.
About the bike designs
We had two starting points for the design of the bike: we wanted to keep it subtle (hence the choice of white and black with gold accents), and we wanted to go completely back to the roots. We therefore chose to use the very first Eddy Merckx logo on the down tube. This dates back to 1980. We even adopted the original colours: black letters with gold framing. With a subtle Eddy 80 reference on the seat tube and top tube, this is our tribute to the “Greatest of All Time”.
About the shirt
Together with Le Coffee Ride, we developed an Eddy cycling jersey. This shirt combines old-school class with new-style clothing technology, such as 4-way stretch and excellent breathability.
The jersey's colours clearly nod to Molteni brown, while the modern design ensures that the jersey is more than just a nostalgic trip.
