525R

With the 525R, we introduce a new performance road bike built around the rider. Its geometry is based on modern bike fitting principles and developed to help cyclists sustain an aerodynamic position without compromising comfort. Together with a lightweight carbon frame and aerodynamic tube profiles, this results in a race bike that translates efficiency into real speed on the road.

Aero DNA with Merckx identity

The 525R brings together the best of two worlds: the proven aerodynamic expertise of modern aero platforms and the distinctive design DNA of Eddy Merckx. Clean lines, signature tube shapes, and refined styling create a bike that is not only fast, but also visually powerful and authentically expressive.

Aero DNA with Merckx identity

Progressive geometry

The 525R is built around a completely new, progressive geometry that optimizes the rider and bike as one aerodynamic system. Through a combination of an adjusted seat tube angle, longer reach, and a higher head tube, an efficient, aggressive position is created that perfectly meets the demands of modern cycling.

Advanced aerodynamics

The 525R builds on proven aerodynamic concepts, featuring a down tube inspired by the latest aero platforms and a diffuser in the fork crown that optimizes airflow. Every detail—from tube shapes to transitions—has been designed to minimize drag. The result is the fastest bike Eddy Merckx has ever developed.

Variable seat tube angle

The seat tube angle varies by frame size and becomes steeper as the size increases. This ensures that each rider’s hip angle remains optimal and consistent, regardless of body height. In combination with the adjusted geometry, this results in efficient power transfer and a natural pedaling motion, without the need to readjust your position.

Versatility without compromise

With clearance for tires up to 34 mm, the 525R offers more versatility than traditional aero bikes. This makes it suitable for a wide range of routes and conditions, without sacrificing speed or performance. A true all-round performance machine for the modern rider.

Road Bike of the Year

The Eddy Merckx 525R was recognised by leading cycling platform BikeRadar for its stiff, responsive character, fast handling and efficient feel on the road. But above all, it was praised for one thing: pure fun. A road bike that combines sharp handling and efficient performance with an unmistakably enjoyable ride.

Road Bike of the Year

Asymmetric front fork

The asymmetric front fork has been developed to better handle crosswinds and turbulent airflow. By controlling and guiding the airflow, the bike remains more stable in changing conditions. This gives the rider added confidence and control, even at high speeds or on exposed, windy routes.

Help & support

How can we help?

What TA is used on the bike?

The frame needs a 12mm TA with a thread of 1mm (article code QRET124ZA046)

What hanger is used on the bike?

The 525R uses the SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH). This means you will find easily a replacement hanger wherever you are as it is a standardised hanger (article code HANUDHSRA001)

What is the tire clearance?

The tire cleance of the 525R is 35mm, actual width. This means the actual width of the tire on the rim. This can be different from the size mentionned on the tire.

What is the maximum torque for the seatpost clamp?

The maximum torque to fix the seatpost clamp is 4Nm, like mentionned on the clamp

What BB standard is used?

We use a BB86 press-fit bottom bracket standard on the 525R.

Which seatpostclamp is used?

The integrated seatpost clamp (Ridley article code SPCAER4ZA012) is designed for the aero seatpost of the 525R.

Which headset type is used?
The frame uses a 1 1/8" upper bearing (IS42/28.6 45°/45°) and 1 1/2" lower bearing (IS52/40 45°/45°)
Can I use a traditionnal stem-handlebar combination?

The 525R is design around an integrated cockpit to have most aero setup, but you can use a traditionnal stem and handlebar. You will need a transition spacer SPAAER4ZA012 to use round spacers and a traditionnal stem.

makes the geometry of the 525R progressive?

The 525R has a steeper seattube angle of 75° in size M, compared to 73° on the previous generation 525. The seattube angle is also steeper going from small sizes to  larger sizes so also taller riders can benefit from this central position. This steeper seattube angle follows the latest trend we see in profesionnal cycling where riders want to ride in a more forward position on the bike, closer to the bottom bracket. This position allows the rider to push in a more efficient way on the pedals by a more open hip angle. From a geometry perspective, we have kept the actual top tube length the same, compared to the previous Noah so the distance between the saddle and cockpit remains the same.
