In June and September three Eddy Merckx Gran Fondos are organised for the recreational and passionate cyclist. Verona, Brussels and Salzburg will offer the scenery for an appealing ride in one of Eddy’s beloved lands and regions. These three events are also your chance to meet Eddy in person.
The Alé-La Merckx Gran Fondo in Verona is the opener of this triplet. On June 10 the event will start next to the Verona Arena for a 81 (mediofondo) or 125 (granfondo) km long challenge. The short route also accommodates the ‘Griglia Scalidera’ where riders can apply to be part of a peloton led by ex-professional riders like Eddy Merckx and Mario Cipollini.

Two weeks later the Eddy Merckx Classic in Brussels is held as part of the Continental Cycling Heroes Tour. On June 24 all riders will start in the King Baudouin Stadium for a 85, 115 or 155 km long ride through Eddy’s childhood region and the Flemish Ardennes where he has won many great cycling races. The longest route will even make you conquer the ‘Muur van Geraardsbergen’. All routes will ultimately finish back in the Stadium in the hart of Brussels.

The event organisers provide a 63 km route that emphasizes the sportive thought (no timekeeping, no awards) and one of 109 or 169 km length where you pass up to 11 beautiful lakes in the Salzburger Land and the Salzkammergut. One day before you will be able to ride along Eddy Merckx during the Charity Tour that supports Wings for Life, an organization in favour of those who can no longer enjoy the freedom of movement due to paralysis.
