Relive classic victories with the unique 'Retrosonic'

The blue and white cycling jersey from Panasonic is pure nostalgia. Immediately, we find ourselves immersed in thoughts of classic victories by Eric Vanderaerden and Eddy Planckaert. Out of love for Flemish cycling heritage, we now introduce a special 'Retrosonic' line from Eddy Merckx Bikes. On these limited edition bikes, you can combine the heroism of the 80s with the latest cycling technologies.

Panasonic is one of those iconic cycling teams in history. With mythical figures like Vanderaerden and Planckaert, but also with the mysterious Robert Millar (now Philippa York) and Phil 'Skippy' Anderson on board, the team captured the hearts of cycling fans. With characteristic jerseys and the best materials, victories piled up. Vanderaerden rode – on an Eddy Merckx bike – to victory in the E3 Prize Harelbeke, the points classification of the Tour, and Paris-Roubaix. Planckaert followed him a year later in Harelbeke.

We have always been very proud of our contribution during these blessed years. Sometimes we still think back to Vanderaerden not winning his last classic on the Roubaix velodrome but in front of the sponsor's buildings, or to Planckaert, who, in Harelbeke in pouring rain, didn't wait for the sprint and emerged as the fastest of the leading trio. There has always been a kind of magic around these bikes. We often hear from our customers that they like to keep this memory alive with old photos and vivid stories.

Eyecatcher

Upon the relaunch of Eddy Merckx Bikes, we have decided to reintroduce this special bike in a modern style to the market. From our four carbon models 525, Mendrisio, Pévèle, and Strasbourg, we are launching an extremely limited collection of bikes in the iconic Panasonic colors. This Retrosonic line serves as the eyecatcher with a nod to our rich past. We also highlight the possibilities in terms of paintwork, which also reappear in our Configurator.

The bicycles are available from the Flemish opening weekend (February 24-25).
