The Strasbourg has long been a classic within the Eddy Merckx range. In 1971, the Cannibal won a memorable Tour de France stage over unpaved roads into Strasbourg, and just like that iconic victory, the Strasbourg has always felt at home on gravel roads and forest trails. Now it's time for the bike to enter a new chapter. Last week, Eddy Merckx Bikes launched the all-new 525R. As always, we invited several independent cycling journalists to spend time with the bike and write an honest review. After thoroughly testing the 525R, they shared their findings — and the first verdicts are overwhelmingly positive. During Eddy’s Gravel Ride, attentive riders may have noticed something remarkable. Jochim Aerts, CEO of BCF, was riding a striking prototype: a gravel bike equipped with 32-inch wheels. Within the gravel community, interest in this larger wheel size is growing rapidly. The engineers at Belgian Cycling Factory are therefore actively working on their own prototype to thoroughly explore the potential of 32-inch wheels in a gravel context.

Between the Monuments of cycling — the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix — Victor Vercouillie (23) of Team Flanders-Baloise made time to speak with us about his remarkable spring campaign. The peloton’s undisputed breakaway king also went on the attack during In Flanders Fields and the Tour of Flanders, doing so aboard our brand-new 525R bike. While Victor battles to make the early break, his father Kristof is fighting incurable colon cancer. That story has also touched the wider public and gives Victor added strength: “The massive support gave me goosebumps.”

Tom Crabbe (20) crowns himself season revelation with two victories: “We already felt at the training camp that things were going well”

It’s a festive period at Team Flanders-Baloise. The barely 20-year-old Tom Crabbe won a stage in both the Etoile de Bessèges and the Ruta Del Sol in February. “Thanks to a winter in which we made a very clear plan and trained every day with a purpose,” he reveals. “This victory naturally creates a fantastic atmosphere within the team.”

Special Edition ‘525 Crimson’ available until the end of February

Last weekend at Velofollies, we unveiled an additional highlight. Alongside our titanium collection, we also presented the 525 Crimson Edition to the public. The frame is finished in Chromacoat Red and features the original Eddy Merckx logo. Depending on the light, the colour reveals an intense red-purple glow, referring to the shade “Crimson”. This bike is available at a special promotional price until the end of February.
