Yentl Vandevelde with the Pévèle Capri-Sun at the Belgian Gravel Championships

Last Sunday, the Pévèle Capri-Sun made its debut at the highest level. Yentl Vandevelde of Team Flanders-Baloise lined up with this colorful gem at the Belgian Gravel Championships. “An amazing experience,” laughed the 24-year-old from East Flanders, who recently finished 3rd in Heusden Koers.

The Pévèle is an all-road bike. This means you can ride this Merckx both on the road and off-road. Two wheelsets are enough to make the switch easily, thanks to a tire clearance of 38 millimeters.

First encounter

For Yentl, it was his first encounter with gravel racing at the highest level. Yet he quickly picked up the habits of the discipline. “I mounted my number in a more aero position, attached a plug on top of my stem, and installed a CO2 cartridge under the top tube,” he explained.

This year, the young talent of Team Flanders-Baloise has already attacked in the Scheldeprijs and recently showed his good form with a podium in Heusden Koers. This Belgian Gravel Championship was mainly a fun intermezzo. “I really enjoyed it, but it’s a discipline of its own,” he smiled. “In the end, I didn’t take too many risks, because a crash would have been very unfortunate at the end of the season.”
